Making easy look good

This is my latest favorite meal. Seared scallops. They make me feel like a ninja gourmet because it is so easy to make them look a lot fancier than they really are. Once-in-a-lifetime culinary extravaganza: Joel Robuchon in Las Vegas

With the holiday season all wrapped up, I have an arsenal of food experiences I can’t wait to share, including the execution of Christmas dinner for 11 by my sister and I, a chef’s custom menu at an exhibition kitchen and one of the highest-quality office potlucks of all time — not to mention several other cooking experiments from last fall! But before I dive into all that, I must start with a dinner so unique it’s beyond even a dining experience. Joel Robuchon is culinary entertainment on every level.

If ‘anniversaire’ means birthday in French, how do you say anniversary?

Champagne!

So let me start with two disclaimers: 1.) Technically, it was sparkling wine, and this sort of misnomer can get you in trouble here in Wine Country, and 2.) Our anniversary was Sept. 16, so I’m taking a little look back on this one.
